Friday 18th May – Royal Windsor Wedding Preparations
I would call Windsor a sleepy tourist town and whilst it gets busy on weekends, the level of ‘busy’ I saw on Friday and then on the day of the royal wedding was just incredible!
Exploring Windsor on Friday was fun – people were already camping along part of the procession route, camera crews were setting up, passers-by were being interviewed for international TV stations and the whole town was buzzing. You could find life-size cut-outs of Harry and Meghan in doorways and shop windows everywhere. Flags and bunting brightened up every street. There were town criers, people dressed in Union Jack outfits with funny sunglasses and ties, and an array of crazy headgear could be spotted all over town. For anyone who enjoys taking candid photos like me, it was so much fun!

Friday 19th May – Royal Windsor Wedding
Saturday morning saw me walking through the Windsor Great Park via the Copper Horse and from the distance you could see the crowds already. It was a beautiful walk into Windsor – crisp air, a clear blue sky and glorious sunshine. Harry and Meghan could not have asked for more perfect weather on their wedding day!
The crowds were staggering, but a fun and buoyant atmosphere prevailed all through the day. I loved the crazy outfits, the banter, the cheering and the fact that everyone was happy. After having bagged a front-row spot along the King’s Road with friends, we didn’t dare move, although I was sorely tempted to capture more candid shots of people enjoying themselves. During the time we stood waiting, we got to know more about the people around us and the residents in the houses behind us. The highlight, of course, was the procession coming past us and seeing Harry and Meghan so radiantly happy. I felt privileged to be part of such a historic event and it’s certainly a memory that will stay with me for a long time.
