I am yet to meet someone who is truly looking forward to having their picture taken. Most people will admit to feeling self-conscious in front of the lens or have the perception that they don’t photograph well – there is added pressure for the couple wanting to capture their important day but already feeling conscious that all eyes will be on them.
I certainly don’t want anyone to dread their photoshoot (especially when these fears are always unfounded) and it’s one of the pleasures of my job to help people relax and enjoy themselves in front of the camera.
One of the best ways to achieve this is to offer a ‘Pre-wedding shoot’ as part of my services. This meeting provides a fabulous way for me to get to know you a little better before your wedding, both as a couple and as individuals. Equally the intention is for you to get to know me.
Prior to the shoot we can discuss suggestions for clothing choices and cover anything else you may want to consider in advance. I then usually suggest meeting and going for a walk at a location significant to you; maybe revisiting where your proposal took place or the venue of a memorable date? Alternatively, I can always suggest somewhere new. On the day of the shoot we can spend a few relaxed, informal hours together walking and chatting whilst I take photographs along the way.

The shoot also gives you the opportunity to address any fears and encourages you to feel more comfortable with me on your wedding day; especially useful for more camera-shy couples. Laughter and silliness are a great ice-breaker and I try to incorporate these into a shoot to distract attention away from the camera so that you come across naturally (I don’t do ‘smile at the camera’ shots).
Finally, these shoots serve to create some nice photos that can be used as invitations or maybe displayed in a signing frame at the wedding itself. For the future they can be a great way for you to celebrate an anniversary or even just to display and treasure.
