After the Royal nuptials of 2018 it’s difficult to think of the Berkshire town of Windsor without also conjuring up images of weddings and romance. But even before Harry and Meghan tied the knot in this beautiful town, Windsor, with its history and charm, has been creating the perfect wedding backdrop for hundreds of years.
Windsor Guildhall
For the couple who want to make the most of the history and location, there are numerous hotels and venues to suit all tastes and budgets. Why not follow in the footsteps of Charles and Camilla or Elton John and David Furnish who married in the Windsor Guildhall? Sited on Windsor High Street this Grade 1 Listed Building now also houses the Windsor and Royal Borough Museum and consists of grand open spaces, decorative columns and a fine collection of portraits.
Windsor Wedding Venues
Although you can’t escape the royal connection, Windsor really has so much more than just the castle. Its proximity to the river means that you can also incorporate the water into your day. Why not privately hire a charter (or even a steamer) between Windsor and Marlow? Historical houses and romantic water meadows along the way make for fantastic photo shoot locations. If you fancy your very own island for your wedding reception, then Queen’s Eyot may be the one for you! Superbly located on the River Thames, Queen’s Eyot provides a picturesque, unique and romantic setting. Guests will be enchanted with their arrival by ferry and the peaceful setting of mature trees, extensive lawns and riverside gardens – a perfect backdrop for your wedding photographs.
If the idea of incorporating the outdoors into your wedding appeals then the 4,800 acres of Windsor Great Park cannot fail to impress. Cumberland Lodge is a 17th century Grade II listed former royal residence and licensed for civil weddings and civil partnerships, including ceremonies and receptions. Within the town itself, both the Sir Christopher Wren hotel with it’s close proximity to the Thames, and the Macdonald Windsor hotel opposite the Windsor Guildhall make great venues for your wedding reception.
If you are looking for magnificent architecture and beautiful grounds with the river Thames running past, I would recommend Oakley Court hotel. Located on the outskirts of Windsor, this Berkshire venue even has one of the nation’s most famous racecourses one side, an Olympic rowing club on the other and a royal residence in-between. The magnificent country house hotel has plenty of spaces to host the ceremony and 33 acres of spectacular grounds to plan a show-stopping reception.
Windsor Wedding Photography
I’m based about 6 miles from Windsor and feel incredibly lucky to be living in such a beautiful part of the country. Not only is Windsor historic and charming, but there are also so many neighbouring, pretty and photogenic villages and towns.
